Victorian Sapphire, Diamond, Ruby and Emerald Flower Brooch, c.1880s

Dating to the 1880s, this brooch is beautifully handmade into the floral pattern. It is a mix of sapphires, diamonds, rubies and emerald, all claw set within the pattern. The sapphires, which are the main gemstones, have a combined weight of 4.10 carat and they are cushion cut. They are natural stones, as are the emeralds, which there are two weighing 0.50 carat each, and the rubies which have a total weight of 1.10 carat. They are a mix of shapes, baguette cut stones and old cut stones, but all are handmade. The rose cut diamonds which finish the piece have a combined weight of 0.40 carat. The brooch has been made out of 15 carat rose gold and silver, two common metals within the Victorian era.
