Victorian 40.00ct Diamond Necklace and Earring Set, c.1880s
Out of stock
A stunning set of state jewellery, dating back to the 1880s. Typically Victorian and elegant in style, this necklace and earrings are of British Provenance. In the centre of the necklace, there is a beautifully set 2.60 carat old cut diamond within a rub over setting. Sat above this stone is a 2.30 carat old cut diamond, both which are H in colour and VS in clarity. The intricate filigree metal work, which delicately holds the supporting smaller diamonds, is a true indication of the craftsmanship involved with this piece. There are two additional large diamonds, which are suspended just above the drop of the pendant, each weighing 1.80 carat. The drop of the pendant, which expertly matches the earrings within the set, holds another stunning old cut diamond, weighing 2.20 carat. Jewellery belonging to a state family of this calibre often came in sets, and this piece also has the original earrings, which match wonderfully. Each earring uses the same old cut diamonds as the necklace, and each one has a centre stone weighing 1.80 carat. In total, inclusive of this central stone, each earring holds 5 carat. Brilliantly, they match the necklace in colour and clarity. The body of the pieces are made of 18 carat yellow gold, typical of the period, however a layer of silver, commonly used in the 1880s, holds the gorgeous stones in place. The white metal compliments the white stones whilst the gold shows the wealth of the piece. This set is truly stunning and unique, it is a show stopper. These pieces normally only turn up in auctions, or are held on to by the families as inheritance pieces. Being able to offer one to our clients is very exciting!
